TOWN OF BERRY (WKOW) -- Deputies with the Dane County Sheriff's Office are searching for an armed person in the area of Festge County Park in the town of Berry, just outside of Cross Plains.
The Dane County Sheriff's Office said a deputy was injured when the suspect attacked her with an edged weapon. The deputy fired her weapon during the altercation, the suspect fled on foot. The injured deputy is being treated at a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The Dane County Sheriff's Office described the suspect as a male wearing black pants and a black hoodie.
Authorities are telling anyone in that area to stay inside and lock all doors. Dane County Emergency Management says anyone who has an emergency or who hears any suspicious activity should call 911 immediately.
During the search, authorities blocked traffic on Hwy. 14 heading west out of Cross Plains. They brought in drones to help them locate the armed suspect. Officers were also seen putting on tactical gear.
Dane County Emergency Management says residents will be notified when their safety is no longer at risk.
