DEFOREST (WKOW) -- The Dane County District Attorney's Office charged a Columbus man Friday in connection to a hit-and-run in DeForest on Monday, October 11.

Eric L. Schroder was charged with one count of Hit and Run - Great Bodily Harm.

Schroder appeared in court for his initial appearance Friday afternoon.

“These types of cases are not solved in a vacuum," Chief James Olson said. "The community has played an integral role in this investigation, and we are eternally grateful for their partnership and support.”

Olson said a person provided a tip that was able to lead police to the "striking" vehicle. That vehicle is a 18-wheel semi-tractor and trailer, and police say it had damage consistent with the accident.

During Friday's court hearing, Dane County assistant district attorney Colleen Lennon said the woman injured in the crash suffered a spinal fracture, brain bleeding, fractured leg, fractured ribs, fractured skull, lacerated liver, lacerated kidney and lacerated spleen.

The court set a $5,000 bond for Schroder.
