Medical examiner identifies victim in Madison east side homicide

MADISON (WKOW) — The Dane County Medical Examiner's Office released the name of a man who died in a November 17 homicide.

According to a news release from department operations director Barry Irmen, Eric Ranson died at the hospital following a shooting on the 3500 block of Home Avenue.

"A forensic autopsy was completed at the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office on 11/18/2021. Preliminary results from the autopsy confirm that Mr. Ranson died from homicidal firearm related trauma," Irmen said in the release.

Ranson's death is still under investigation by both the DCME's office and the Madison Police Department.

A person of interest in the case is currently in custody on unrelated charges, but police have not made any arrests or named any suspects in Ranson's murder.
