GREENFIELD (WKOW) — Police say the man killed in a random Greenfield stabbing Tuesday was from Madison.

Police say Ben Christianson, 49, of Madison was working in the area of South 60th Street in Greenfield when a man stabbed him in what police are calling a random act of violence.

Authorities questioned and then arrested a 19-year-old Greenfield man, whom police are calling the lone suspect.

“There appears to be no connection between the victim and suspect and the motive remains unknown at this time,” Greenfield police said in a statement.

Christianson worked for Ramaker, a Sauk City based architectural and engineering firm.

“Yesterday we learned that we lost a member of our team in a senseless act of violence in Greenfield,” Ramaker said in a statement Wednesday. “We are heartbroken to learn of this incident. He was a wonderful person and a great member of our organization.”

The company went on to extend its condolences to his family and thank first responders for their efforts. The company said it is working with law enforcement on the investigation.
