MADISON (WKOW) -- Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway says the city is taking a multi-faceted approach to addressing the problem of violence in Madison.
During a speech to the Rotary Club of Madison Wednesday afternoon, Rhodes-Conway praised the work of police chief Shon Barnes. She said Barnes is using a data-informed approach to identifying patterns in violent incidents.
"MPD has been engaging in a strategic planning process, I think for the first time ever, under his leadership that uses environmental assessments, crime data and community engagement to station and equip officers where they need to be when they need to be there," Rhodes-Conway said.
The mayor said she put funding in her budget for a data and innovation director at MPD to work on this type of strategic planning.
