Madison police looking for West Towne purse snatchers

MADISON (WKOW) — The Madison Police Department is looking for two people suspected of a purse-stealing incident at West Towne Mall Wednesday afternoon.

A female suspect, a 28-year-old Madison woman,is accused of grabbing a 31-year-old Madison woman’s purse as the victim was dining at the Cheesecake Factory.

Witnesses saw the suspect get into red Ford Escort with Wisconsin license plate ABK2267.

It is a 2002 model with no hub caps and wheel-well rust.

A MPD officer spotted and attempted to stop the car, but the driver ignored squad lights and siren.

Per Madison police policy, the pursuit was terminated.

However, the pursuing officer was able to identify both the theft suspect and the driver.

He is a 34-year-old Monroe, WI resident.

Anyone seeing the red Ford Escort should call 911.

Police say there is probable cause to arrest the two for the theft.
