WKOW (MADISON)-- The WIAA state team tennis tournament kicks off on Friday with the quarterfinals. The Middleton Cardinals enter as the 4th seed. The Cardinals participated in the alternate spring season last year. They defeated Neenah 4-3 in the championship match to earn the title. Now, they are looking to repeat this weekend.

"You know as cliche as it sounds, we try to go once match at a time, but I think when you look at our roster and what we did last year, our goal was to make it here," Head Coach Matthew Given said. "So, we're pretty excited to see what we can do."

"It's a lot more exciting since there's a lot more schools," Senior Rose Ryan said. "There are so many more participants and everybody can watch so there's a ton of people at Nielsen."

"Honestly just think that we should go out there and play our best, and I feel like we have a good chance of winning it," Junior Sonya Agapov said.

Middleton will face Ashwaubenon in the first round.
