Battling COVID-19

The community has rallied around a trooper and his family.

WAUSAU (WAOW) — A Wisconsin State Trooper hospitalized with COVID-19 has died.

Dan Stainbrook was hospitalized on October 27 in the ICU at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.

He was later placed in a coma and put on a respirator, and later transferred to Madison for care, according to a GoFundMe page set up to help support his family.

Trooper Stainbrook along with another trooper and an inspector were awarded a lifesaving award for their actions in February of 2020.

They responded to a two vehicle crash in Adams County in which the occupants were trapped in their vehicle. When the three men arrived on scene the vehicle was located at the bottom of a drainage ditch and water had risen to the driver's side window, the occupants couldn't escape

Together, the three men were able to get both women out of the vehicle and up an icy embankment. They were transported to the local hospital and they both fully recovered.

Their actions can be read about here.
